Altered traffic management during the 5 construction phases
General information on traffic management
Construction work will take place between 2017 and 2019 with the roads remaining open to traffic. For this reason, all routes will remain fundamentally undisturbed. Access roads will still be accessible. Pedestrians will be able to reach all destinations and the S-Bahn station. Cyclists may use their own designated spacious traffic detour. Bus stops will be relocated from time to time. All current information on detours and changes to traffic management is documented here as soon as they are foreseeable.
Traffic management for cyclists, 2017-2019
Throughout the entire construction period, cyclists are advised to broadly bypass the construction site in Kaiserlei. A diversion has been developed along the Main to accommodate cyclists. This is shown in the following map. Click on the image to open the PDF, which can also be printed.
Traffic management during construction phase I
Entry to the roundabout from the motorway approaching from the south has already been narrowed down to one lane due to a canal construction site. Apart from this, nothing else should change for drivers during the first construction phase. The Kaiserleipromenade will also partially be under construction, leading to fewer parking spaces.
The underpass to the south of the roundabout has been closed at the S-Bahn station. It will be removed and replaced with a new overground cycle path to Offenbach. The Kaiserleipromenade and other locations will be partially under construction during this phase and there are obstructions. The recommended cycle path spaciously circumnavigates the construction site. Obstructions are documented here for destinations surrounding the roundabout:
Traffic management during construction phase II
The first section of the new northern intersection will be opened - something which drivers who travel from Frankfurt to Offenbach via the inside area of the roundabout will quickly notice. Obstructions are expected to be incurred by the construction site traffic. In the southern area, traffic will be guided to and from the motorway with provisional ramps. Both traffic lanes to the south of the roundabout will be reduced to one lane. All routes are to remain undisturbed.
The spacious detour is provided for cyclists. Information on traffic obstructions can be found on the downloadable map below.
Traffic management during construction phase III
All routes will remain fundamentally undisturbed. Partial closures and construction site traffic may cause obstructions. Traffic will be guided from Frankfurt towards Offenbach city centre (from west to east) via Kaiserleipromenade and Berliner Straße. Traffic management will enable drivers to turn off and drive onwards to Offenbach in the north.
Traffic from Offenbach city centre towards Frankfurt (from east to west) will pass along a single-lane through the Strahlenbergerstraße and the new lanes in the northern section of the roundabout.
Traffic management during construction phase IV
All routes will remain fundamentally undisturbed. Partial closures and construction site traffic may cause obstructions. Traffic from Frankfurt (Main) towards Offenbach city centre (from west to east) will also be handled as one-way traffic on the Kaiserleipromenade. The entrance and exit for the A661, from and to the north, will be replaced with new ramps.
Traffic from Offenbach city centre towards Frankfurt am Main (from east to west) will pass over the already constructed Strahlenbergerstraße.
Access to the A661 southbound will take place via the newly completed ramps on the northern intersection. It will not be possible to drive up/into the ramps when approaching from the Kaiserleipromenade or Berliner Straße.
Traffic from Frankfurt (Main) towards the A661 southbound will pass through filter lanes onto the new ramps on Strahlenbergerstraße (west and east) and the midsection of the lens in the north.
The A661 southbound can be exited in the direction of Frankfurt (Main) via the new ramps. The A661 southbound can be exited in the direction of Offenbach via the provisional exit ramps.
Traffic management during construction phase V
All routes will remain fundamentally undisturbed. Partial closures and construction site traffic may cause obstructions. The Berliner Straße will remain closed during this construction phase, until completion.
