International Day of People with Disabilities

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is December 3.

It is a day of action. This day is all about people with disabilities.

The day of action has existed since 1993.

The United Nations has decided on the day. It is an assembly with all the countries of the world.

That's why this day of action exists:

  • People with disabilities often do not have the same rights as everyone else.
  • In some countries, people with disabilities don't get any help.

The United Nations says:

  • People with disabilities have the same rights as all people.
  • People with disabilities belong.
  • Human rights also apply to people with disabilities.

The United Nations has made a treaty on this.

The treaty is called the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

You can also say: UN Treaty.

On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, everyone should think about people with disabilities.

This day is a reminder of the problems faced by people with disabilities.

Everyone should realize:

  • People with disabilities belong to the community.
  • They need the same rights as people without disabilities.
  • Because every person is worth the same.
