On foot or by bike - a route description
We start our walk on the apple wine route around Offenbach on the banks of the Main in Rumpenheim. This is where the route from Hanau and Wetterau joins from the other bank and can be reached by ferry. The paths are sufficiently to very well passable, mostly flat and well signposted.
Rumpenheim
The Hessian long-distance cycle route 4 and the connecting route to the Hessian long-distance cycle route 8 meet on the Rumpenheim ferry bank. Independently of the Hessian long-distance cycle paths, the apple wine route leads "a stone's throw away from Rumpenheim Castle" via Schmiedegasse into Marstallstraße, from where you turn left into Schlossgartenstraße. At the fork in the road after the castle wall, continue straight on to Bischofsheimer Weg in the Biebernsee district. At the Rote Warte, the route heads west on the Klingenwiesen meadows along the Kuhmühlgraben to the south. Turn right at the third field path junction. The first path on the left then leads into the extended Hanauer Straße. At Alicestraße, turn south and cycle or walk along the Geleitsweg to the right to Kekulestraße, across Mühlheimer Straße and Laskastraße and bridge to Lämmerspieler Weg. Follow Lämmerspieler Weg for a short distance to the east and continue along the forest path running parallel to it. To the south, it touches the allotment gardens of the Lohwaldsiedlung and, after crossing the asphalt road, takes a south-easterly course to the edge of the forest at the Käsmühle. From here, the trail continues steadily along the edge of the forest to the bridge over the B 448, where you have a very good panoramic view on a clear day, especially to the north-west and south-west.
Beaver
Down the bridge ramp you come to the entrance to Bieber. Würzburger Straße begins there from the development boundary. From here, continue over the railroad tracks into Bruchgärten to Seligenstädter Straße and from there into Obermühlstraße to Obermühle. 100 meters further on, parallel to the Bieber, turn right, cross the stream and then turn left along the stream to the Bieberer Waldschneise. Here you enter the forest until the Heusenstammer Weg turns right to the north. At the next forest road junction, turn left onto Müllerweg. Continue along this road and cross the L 3405 (Waldstraße) at the traffic lights. After around 300 meters, you can turn right to visit the forest zoo.
Rose height
The recommended route continues straight ahead in the same direction on Müllerweg to Weißes Kreuz and Dietzenbach Straße. On Dietzenbacher Straße, the route runs north to Lauterbornweg (5). Continue north on Gravenbruchweg and turn left at the next crosswalk onto J.-F.-Kennedy-Promenade. Follow this to Johann-Strauß-Weg, which is part of the historic industrial railroad route. The route then heads west, crosses Richard-Wagner-Straße and leads via Schumannstraße into Backstraße, which is signalized at the junction with Sprendlinger Landstraße.
Backstraße leads into Georg-Oswald-May-Weg (3). From here it goes uphill. The Georg-Oswald-May-Weg crosses several traffic-calmed areas. The Buchrainweg (2) runs northeast to the Taunusring. A 30 km/h zone follows seamlessly from the Taunusring/Buchrainweg junction. After passing the paved crossing area, turn left into Brandsbornstraße (1) as far as Isenburgring. At the end of the shared footpath and cycle path in the middle of Isenburgring, turn left under the railroad line to Dreieichpark. Continue north along Frankfurter Straße and August-Bebel-Ring to Berliner Straße.
Cult tour on the Main
Before the traffic circle, the southern cycle path on Berliner Straße from August-Bebel-Ring can be used in the opposite direction until it crosses under the Kaiserlei traffic circle or, similarly, the cycle path on Strahlenbergerstraße can be used until it reaches Kaiserleistraße. Strahlenbergerstraße (B 43) is crossed and on the north side the route crosses the junction with Herrnrainweg.
Exactly on the city boundary between Offenbach and Frankfurt, shortly after Herrnrainweg, you turn right and soon afterwards come to the Mainuferweg, which runs parallel to it. From here, turn left to reach the Gerbermühle in Frankfurt's Oberrad district and also Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen. Alternatively, you can also turn right at Herrnrainweg. Then follow the signs below the Kaiserlei bridge, ride along the Nordring cycle path and, after crossing the Carl-Ullrich bridge, you will reach the large Main riverbank parking lot. You can also start a short cult tour from the famous promenade on the Maindamm and stop by Isenburg Castle, the Büsing Palais, the Klingspor Museum or the castle church, for example.
Bürgel
If you stay on the combined footpath and cycle path along the Main, you will reach Bürgel. From here, after passing the Arthur-von-Weinberg footbridge and the subsequent campsite, the route continues into the next bend in the Main. The local recreation area at Schultheisweiher is located here. At the ferry in Rumpenheim, you return to the starting point of the route.
