Urban development is a top priority in Offenbach: The city is represented with five measures in the three urban development funding programs - "Growth and Sustainable Renewal", "Vibrant Centres" and "Social Cohesion". State Secretary Dr. Philipp Nimmermann presented the five funding decisions totalling EUR 5.2 million to Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke in Offenbach on Wednesday. With these programs, the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building, in cooperation with the state of Hesse, supports cities and municipalities in adapting building structures and public spaces to new and changing needs. The funds are financed equally by the federal and state governments.
"The promise of funding is a helpful recognition and support for our work," explained Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke. "This will make many things easier, such as the maintenance and upgrading of Bieber and Bürgel or simply much-needed greenery in the cityscape. The seventh funding decision for the Innovation Campus is of particular importance for the future of the city. We want to convert the Dreibogenhalle so that it can be used for the creative industries," says Schwenke, explaining how the funds are to be used as strategically as possible. "Young artists can then try out the studio spaces and create an attractive magnet and address image through public events," says Schwenke.
Offenbach's Head of Building and Planning, Paul-Gerhard Weiß, added: "We are delighted that our applications were successful and that Offenbach is once again receiving funding from three different funding programs. They will all be used for the renovation, conversion, new construction and redesign of various projects that are very important for Offenbach's urban development. In recent years, we have also been able to use these funds to implement exemplary and forward-looking projects, such as Senefelder Park and the daycare center there, or currently the conversion of the market square and the measures in the area around the signal box on Bismarckstrasse. Urban development funding is therefore indispensable for the sustainable development of our city."
