City council adopts city center pre-emption rights statute

26.01.2024

"Offenbach's city center is changing," says City Councillor Paul-Gerhard Weiß. "In order to be able to better influence the changes, a pre-emption right statute has been drawn up for the city center area, which gives the city the opportunity to take over properties in the course of sales transactions and develop them in the interests of a vibrant city center".

At its most recent meeting on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the municipal council approved the statute. However, the pre-emption right statute will only become legally binding after approval by the city councillors and subsequent official publication.

The area covered by the statute includes the pedestrian zone and adjacent areas between Isenburg Castle and the main railway station on the one hand and between the Leather Museum and Karlstrasse on the other. In total, the area of application covers a good 42 hectares.

The city is already providing impetus for a positive transformation of the city center with various programs and measures such as the city center future concept. The pre-emption right statute offers an additional instrument to steer the further development of the city center.
