The city of Offenbach wants to create more quality of life at the city's central traffic junction by remodeling the market square. The aim is to strengthen the shopping location and make the city center more attractive in terms of urban development. After several postponements, the project started in May 2021 and most of the construction work was completed in summer 2023.

The market square is the most important entrance to the pedestrian zone and the city's public transport hub. The aim of the renovation measures was to enhance its design and give it a new quality of life. Public transport, cycling and pedestrians have been given more space.

The city councillors approved the new conversion variant in December 2019. Following the implementation planning and the invitation to tender for the construction work, the city council decided to award the contract on March 17, 2021, and the actual construction work began on May 10, 2021.

The market square was rebuilt in six construction phases from Frankfurter Straße to Waldstraße and Geleitsstraße, excluding Bieberer Straße.
