On Wednesday, September 28, the ornamental cherries on the square at the intersection of Berliner Straße and Schloßstraße will be transplanted to their new location in the Senefelder Quartierspark. The transplantation has become necessary in the course of the market square renovation. The trees are still standing on the site of Wase GmbH, the former Toys'R'Us building. The trees have to be replanted for the further construction project. At their new location, the seven-metre-high and almost equally wide trees will provide much-needed shade in summer and delight residents with their blossoms in spring.
A company specializing in planting large trees will carry out the work. With the help of an oversized "round stake" with a diameter of 2.5 meters, the trees will be lifted out of their old tree patches. Each tree will then be transported by truck to its new location and replanted immediately. Over the past few weeks, the trees have been prepared for their move and will continue to be professionally cared for at their new location.
However, only four of the five large trees with a trunk circumference of 50 to 65 centimetres can be transplanted. One cherry tree can no longer be transplanted due to existing trunk damage and low vitality. This tree must therefore be felled and replaced by two new plantings, also in the Senefelder Quartierspark.
