Completion of the concrete roadway at the market square
28.11.2022
The final civil engineering works for the house connections and water supply in the western area of the market square are progressing according to plan. With the completion of the new concrete carriageway, the road construction will also be finished shortly. This brings the announced opening to traffic in mid-December closer. On Wednesday morning, November 30, the concrete for the last section of the roadway at Frankfurter Straße will be poured. Preparatory work for the substructure and reinforcement is taking place today.
Weather permitting, the concrete will have hardened sufficiently within the next 14 days for the market square to be reopened to traffic from December 15. The detour routes will then no longer be necessary - the market square and Wilhelmsplatz will be as easily accessible by car as before.
One of the last major measures this year is the installation of the new base plate for the Ottomar Gassenmeyer fountain, which will be re-set in the southern area of the market square. The base will be delivered on Wednesday, November 30, between 7.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. and unloaded and installed using a crane. Work on the house connections along the facades will continue in January after the Christmas break, which begins on December 16. The major construction work will be completed by then. Finally, the installation of the fountain, the benches and the new canopy stop as well as the planting of new trees will follow in the spring.
