The construction of the open spaces in the Bieber Nord development area has begun. The first step is the large green corridor, which forms the backbone of the development area parallel to the B 448. At the same time, the design of the areas along the noise barrier on the B 448 will begin.
"The green corridor offers recreational space for everyone, play opportunities for children and also offers the possibility of short footpaths between the northern residential area and the school and nursery," explains city councillor Paul-Gerhard Weiß.
The park is accessed along its southern edge by a three-metre wide illuminated path. Across this, three further paths provide short footpath connections and thus improve accessibility to the school and S-Bahn. Over 150 new trees on the meadow areas complement the existing fruit and deciduous trees. Over time, this will create a shaded recreational area for local recreation.
The 500 square meter play area will be equipped with a variety of play objects. Vertical and horizontal climbing sculptures will challenge older children. The nest swing, wobbly sheep, playhouse and play wall can be used inclusively.
A further green connection is created in front of the noise barrier. The installation of gabions (wire baskets filled with stones) creates a staggered height. The resulting raised gravel path runs completely along the northern boundary of the development area and connects four seating areas. With a further 80 new trees and species-rich shrub planting, a green belt completes the development area.
Another part of the project is the redesign of the S-Bahn forecourt, which will give the Bieber S-Bahn station in the development area an inviting environment. In addition to providing bicycle parking facilities and a staircase with a barrier-free ramp to the S-Bahn, the square will be equipped with seating and a total of 38 trees. The work for this will take place over the course of next year.
Completion of the work is scheduled for the end of 2022. Only the eastern part of the green corridor is still required for the construction site facilities for the new educational complex and will therefore be completed at a later date.
In addition to the open space planning measures, the road alignment from Adam-Marsch-Straße to Mühlheimer Weg will be created in the coming weeks and its course improved compared to the current situation. This measure should be completed in December 2021. The current thoroughfare will be removed in favor of the park.
We ask for your understanding if there are temporary traffic obstructions during the construction work.
