School district boundaries in Bieber to be redefined

09.05.2023 – Primary school pupils must attend the school in their catchment area. Unlike secondary schools, the school district determines the choice of elementary school.

The population in Offenbach has grown considerably. This has also had an impact on the number of pupils in elementary school. New school locations have been created so that the children have enough space to learn. This makes it necessary to divide the Bieber district into two new school districts.

Head of Education Paul-Gerhard Weiß

Following a decision by the city councillors, the school development plan stipulated that the Bieber-Nord and Waldhof sites together form the Bieber elementary school. In addition, an additional primary level was added to the IGS Geschwister-Scholl-Schule with the Mauerfeldschule site. Until now, the children have been enrolled at the Bieber school, which is located in a district. "The interim location is now coming to an end and the separation into two independent elementary school has been completed. For this reason, it became necessary to redraw the school district boundaries. We looked at the area and defined two different school districts for the two elementary school, which are spread over a total of three locations in Bieber," explains Paul-Gerhard Weiß. Subject to approval by the city councillors, the school district boundaries will in future run along Aschaffenburger Strasse and Seligenstädter Strasse / Siebeneichen. This will permanently relieve the Mauerfeldschule site.

Experience has shown that the number of new pupils in the individual school districts fluctuates from year to year. Some elementary school are already full, while the neighboring schools could still accept children. "For this reason, we would like to designate adjacent school districts as so-called 'overlapping districts' in order to be able to fill the places in the elementary school, taking into account the available capacity," says Weiß. "Of course, care will be taken to ensure that pupils can reach their elementary school within a short distance," adds the head of education.
