Pupils tested their native language skills
07.05.2025
"Are you bilingual? Show your knowledge in the language test!" With this invitation, bilingual pupils growing up in Offenbach were invited to take the language test. The so-called "Herkunftssprachliche Sprachstandserhebung" took place at the Theodor-Heuss-Schule in Arabic (5 participations), Turkish (4 participations), Italian (5 participations), Russian (9 participations), Croatian, Bosnian (2 participations), Serbian (3 participations), Montenegrin, Greek (8 participations) and Romanian (2 participations). More than half of the participants have a language level of C1 or higher in their native language, which means that they can express themselves fluently in most situations, read complex factual and literary texts and can understand radio and television broadcasts with relative ease. Language skills are assessed according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and certified in a certificate.
"Many pupils in Offenbach grow up bilingual and have no proof of their native language skills. The language test makes these valuable skills visible, enhances them and can even improve career opportunities," says Paul-Gerhard Weiß, Head of Education, who is delighted with the free offer from Hessencampus Offenbach, in which more than 1,400 young people have already taken part since 2007. The next language assessment will take place in spring 2027. Offenbach school pupils will be invited again in good time.
