Good results for language proficiency assessment in the language of origin
06.06.2023 – Almost all of the 77 pupils who took part in the heritage language assessment came to the Theodor-Heuss-Schule for the ceremonial presentation of their certificates.
Head of Education Paul-Gerhard Weiß presented the certificates and emphasized in his opening speech: "Many pupils in Offenbach grow up bilingual and have no proof of their native language skills. With the language test, these valuable skills are documented, are appreciated and can even improve career opportunities."
The language proficiency test, which has been organized on behalf of Hessencampus Offenbach since 2007, allows Offenbach residents with a migration background to have their linguistic and written skills in their language of origin certified. The tests are carried out free of charge for Turkish, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and Greek and the language skills are certified according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Paul-Gerhard Weiß, head of the education department, was assisted by Horst Schad, head teacher of the Theodor-Heuss-Schule, Marlies Stülb, head teacher of the Käthe-Kollwitz-Schule and Dirk Wolk-Pöhlmann, head of the adult education center, in presenting the certificates. Everyone was delighted with the pupils' good results. Mr. Schad joked: "Everyone is talking about AI at the moment, but these results were achieved using natural intelligence alone." After the handover, all those present were able to chat over snacks and drinks provided by the Theodor Heuss School cafeteria.
