Mayor Sabine Groß visits traffic campaign at Bieber-Nord school

11.06.2024

Mayor Sabine Groß secured the road together with the school crossing patrols.

Parents who drop their children off in front of the school in the morning are endangering everyone's road safety. This is all the more critical at the Bieber-Nord school, as the surrounding roads and sidewalks will not be fully developed until construction in the new development area has progressed sufficiently. For this reason, Willi-Bauer-Straße will be temporarily closed from Monday, June 10 to ensure the safety of schoolchildren on their way to school. School crossing patrols will help to keep the road safe so that the children can get to school safely.

The road will be closed from 7.30 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. and from 2.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. until the road is finally completed, when parents drop off and pick up their children by car. To ensure that this is accepted from the outset, the city and traffic police will accompany the measure with checks at the beginning. Mayor and Head of Mobility Sabine Groß was also on site at the start of the campaign on Monday to support the campaign.

Mayor and Head of Mobility Sabine Groß says: "Safety in the school zones for the children of our city is very important to me. I would like to thank the parents who have volunteered to act as guides and the school management for supporting this campaign."

Isabel Hommel, deputy principal, adds: "The children and the entire team at Bieber School are very pleased that we can make the children's journey to school safer with this joint campaign by the town, school and parents. We hope that this traffic campaign will convince more children and parents to come to school on foot, by scooter or by bike and promote children's health and independence."

"We are very pleased that the city is ensuring a safe route to school for our children by installing barriers and temporarily closing the road, and that we parents can support this campaign with the pilot service," concluded the parents' council.
