One year of the QuB project: Creating prospects for young immigrants in Offenbach

06.08.2025 – The "QuB" (Qualification and Employment) project of the City of Offenbach's school-to-work transition management celebrates its first anniversary. Since the start of the project in summer 2024, "QuB" has been supporting young new immigrants on their way into the world of work after leaving school - with a special focus on language support and vocational orientation.

"To achieve this, QuB focuses on practical offers that are based on the needs of the young people and their individual strengths: In addition to joint German lessons, the focus is also on practical relevance and the young people can get to know professions in various training companies," explains Mayor and Head of Youth Affairs Sabine Groß.

"Beforehand, I had no idea what a hairdresser actually did and thought it was more for women. But when we visited the hairdressing salon, we were allowed to try out a lot of things and ask questions, which was exciting. I then even decided to do an internship there," reports seventeen-year-old Muhammad. Eighteen-year-old Albin also enjoyed the insight. Because he likes working with wood, he visited the training site and is now interested in becoming a carpenter. "Before, I didn't even know that this apprenticeship existed."

"Many people lack orientation in the professional jungle. When language barriers are added to this, many lose heart. In this first year, we were able to reach some young people who not only improved their language skills through QuB, but also gained more clarity about their career options," explains project employee Jakob Wolf. "This shows how important such an offer is - especially for young people who are new to Germany and have to overcome many hurdles at the same time."

The first participants have now successfully completed the QuB project and have found a suitable apprenticeship. Franziska Breitbach, social worker in the QuB project, is delighted with the successes: "It's wonderful to see how our young people have discovered their talents and are now embarking on paths that they really enjoy. One participant is starting a voluntary service in a crèche with a view to training as a nursery teacher, while another is starting out in the hotel industry. We also have a budding baker and a future physiotherapist in our ranks. This diversity shows that the project helps everyone to find their own personal path."

With the start of the second project year, the QuB offer is to be further expanded. "We want to gain even more companies as partners so that we can present our participants with an even broader range of professional fields," explains Wolf. Language support is also to be intensified, as good German language skills are the key to success on the training market.

With the successful completion of the first participants, places in the QuB project will become available again. Interested parties can get in touch at any time to find out more information, find out more about the project and clarify questions directly with the project team.
