Swimming activities for children, young people and adults: safety, fitness and fun in the water
Learning to swim is very important because it can save lives and is a lot of fun. Many children and young people cannot (yet) swim. And those who don't know how to swim can quickly find themselves in mortal danger when swimming or playing on a beach, river or lake. This is why Hessen promotes courses for children, for example the "Hessen learns to swim" initiative and the "Löwenstark" program, so that they can playfully gain safety in the water.
Adults can also attend special swimming or aqua fitness courses. For advanced swimmers, there are competitive swimming courses and the opportunity to take part in competitions.

Combination starfish/seahorse course: once a week for 45 minutes, 10 sessions
(from 5 years)
In the first part of the course, the children start with the water familiarization starfish. The children playfully familiarize themselves with the element of water. This includes safety in the water, floating on the water and gliding in the breast and back position. Breathing - floating - gliding - propelling are the 4 core elements of the course. In addition, the children make their first attempts at diving, learn how to blow, bubble, breathe, jump and lie in and on the water. In the second part, the focus is on seahorses. Here, children who are already accustomed to the water gradually learn to swim freely without aids, start swimming on their backs and practise crawling in a prone position. Attention is paid to breathing.
