Vocational language courses (DeuFöV)
The integration courses provide immigrants with their first important German language skills. This opens the first doors to participation and inclusion. In order to improve their chances on the job and training market, immigrants and refugees looking for work are intensively prepared for the job market in subsequent job-related language and further qualification courses.
This takes place in three different modules: The first basic module comprises 300 teaching units and concludes with level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In two further basic modules, which build on this, qualifications at levels C1 and C2 can be achieved. However, these are not currently offered in Offenbach.
The vocational language courses are aimed at
- New immigrants (including asylum seekers from countries with a high protection rate),
- EU citizens and
- Germans with a migration background.
Interested parties who
- require a certain language level for professional recognition or for access to a profession,
- are in training or looking for a training position,
- are registered as jobseekers and/or receive benefits according to SGB II (basic income support for jobseekers/"citizen's allowance") or SGB III (unemployment benefit I),
- are registered as jobseekers despite having a job and whose German language skills are not sufficient to cope with everyday working life.
To take part in qualified vocational language courses, eligible course participants must have completed the integration course or have reached at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The employment agencies and job centers decide who takes part in the vocational language courses. They apply to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) for authorization to participate.
The vocational language courses are free of charge for course participants who are entitled to attend. Employed persons who do not receive social benefits pay a personal contribution of currently EUR 2.56 per teaching unit. The employer can also pay the cost contribution.
