Self-study center of the adult education center
In the self-learning center of the Volkshochschule Offenbach, German can be practiced at computer workstations with computer-based self-learning programs for a small fee. Learning advisors help learners to choose the right learning program and support them in working through their individual learning plan. The "German at work" program allows you to practice online communication at levels A1 to B2 in the workplace. The content ranges from social and technical professions, trades and services to office work. TIP
The German Adult Education Association (DVV) has developed a free digital language course specifically for the hotel and catering sector. This course contains around 200 interactive exercises to help learn the technical terms and practise typical written tasks. These include, for example, answering reservation inquiries, writing offers or filling out booking plans.

"Arriving well in Germany": The free app is intended as a guide for immigrants and helps them find their way around during the first few weeks. The aim is to provide asylum seekers with the most important information quickly. The app contains information on life in Germany, the asylum procedure and the path to training and work. The language section also offers the opportunity to practise German. The app is available in German, English, French, Arabic and Farsi.
App Irmgard
The woman's name promises "great", "mighty" and also "protection", and the app of the same name, "Irmgard", is aimed at people who want to learn to read and write anonymously and free of charge. The app was developed together with illiterate people and tested and further developed in literacy courses: In nine learning levels, you can train your own reading and writing skills with more than 100 exercises. No previous knowledge is required. The first learning level (Level 1) is available free of charge in the Google Play Store.
German trainer A1 app
How do you count in German? What are the names of foods? How do you tell the time in German? What are the names of family members? How do you plan a trip together? With the Deutschtrainer A1 app, you can expand your vocabulary at language level A1. The app is free for iOS and Android. The app has 10 chapters. In each chapter, you practise vocabulary on an everyday topic. The topics are based on textbooks and the Goethe exams at level A1.
News in simple language
An article in plain language has been published regularly in the Offenbacher Stadtpost since the end of December 2021. The topics are related to the city of Offenbach. The aim is to inform people about important topics and offers who cannot read German very well. For example, because they find it difficult to read or because they have not lived in Germany for very long.
News in simple language can be found on the "Nachrichtenleicht" website. Every Friday afternoon, the most important news of the week is published.
