Inauguration of Bieber-Nord school and daycare center in summer
26.04.2024
The first children have moved into the daycare center and school in the Bieber Nord educational complex. Construction work was set back for several months due to enormous water damage following heavy rainfall, particularly in the basement. But in the first few weeks of this year, the daycare center and school were finally able to open in their new premises.
Both buildings were erected on Willi-Bauer-Straße in Offenbach: An elementary school, designed for three classes and a maximum of 300 pupils, and a daycare center with six groups for 124 children up to the age of six. Work is currently still underway on the outdoor facilities.
Head of the Building and Schools Department Paul-Gerhard WeißWith the modern classrooms, canteen, sports hall and space for all-day operation, we meet the demand in this district for a real, bound all-day school.
"Despite the delay, the construction phase fortunately only lasted around two years thanks to the great commitment of the planners, project managers, OPG and building construction management. Our specialist planners made the most of the limited plot of land - also by offering the open space on the roof terrace," explains Paul-Gerhard Weiß, Head of Building and Schools, who also thanks the school management and school community for their constructive support during the construction project.
The project is expected to cost 36.5 million euros. Both the school and the daycare center are planned to be barrier-free and therefore meet the requirements for an inclusive concept. In addition, the school operates as a genuine all-day school in accordance with the Hessian School Act, with lessons and activities in the mornings and afternoons being pedagogically interlinked and compulsory for everyone.
The daycare center offers space in two groups for children under 3 years and in four groups for children from 3 to 6 years. The facility is run by the Evangelical Regional Association of Frankfurt and Offenbach.
The schoolyard with the playground equipment has been ready since February 2024. Work on the outdoor facilities of the daycare center will continue until the beginning of May. In front of the sports hall, the lower courtyard is being built as a combined ramp and staircase construction. Among other things, it provides barrier-free access to the sports hall from the outside. The inauguration ceremony is planned for summer 2024.
The project management for this complex construction project has been assigned to the municipal building construction management department in the Office for Planning and Construction, while the municipal utility company OPG Offenbacher Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH has been commissioned with the project control and project management of the realization.
