A final look over the rooftops: Scaffolding at IGS Lindenfeld is being taken down
05.08.2026 – Where scaffolding poles have blocked the view of the final construction phase of the IGS Lindenfeld for months, there will be an unobstructed view by early August. The scaffolding will be taken down during the last week of summer vacation. Until then, the workers will be laying the final clinker bricks on the facade and finishing work on the school kitchen’s ventilation system on the roof.
“When the students return after summer break, they’ll see the new building for the first time almost entirely free of scaffolding. This is a special moment, because the progress of the construction will be visible to everyone. We’re creating modern learning environments here for current and future generations and are taking another important step toward completion,” said Mayor Andreas Bruszynski.
Once the demolition is complete, work will begin in the schoolyard. Meanwhile, interior finishing work continues inside the building. “From electrical work to ceiling installation to the completion of the restrooms—many trades are currently working hand in hand so that we can hand over the new building as planned in the first quarter of 2027,” explains Frank Herrgen, project manager at OPG.
As of now, the total cost amounts to approximately 31.1 million euros. The new elementary school building forms a U-shape around the historic main building on Friedensstraße. Currently, 860 students attend the IGS, including those in the elementary division. Once the final construction phase is complete, 200 of these elementary-level students will be able to attend classes in the new building.
