When they start school, children from the age of 6 or 7 continue the education they started in kindergarten at elementary school. Here they learn writing, arithmetic, reading and gain access to art, sport and science. In addition, the four-year primary school period strengthens social skills and community interaction and prepares them for secondary school from year 4 onwards. There are special support options for pupils who do not speak German.
The choice of elementary school depends on the district of residence of the parents or guardians. There are 16 primary school districts in Offenbach, two of which are primary, secondary and intermediate schools with a special school level: the Ernst-Reuter-Schule, the Mathildenschule and the private Marianne-Frostig-Schule.
At the beginning of the year, parents of school-age children receive all the necessary information on registration and enrollment from the City of Offenbach's Education Department.
