Wheelmap: Accessibility in Offenbach
27.10.2022
The living environment in Offenbach is far from being "designed for all". This means that not everyone can get in and out everywhere as a matter of course. Whether it's steps, high kerbs or shopping in supermarkets - there are still numerous barriers that limit the mobility of people with wheelchairs, walking frames, rollators or baby carriages, for example.
Mobility means how someone gets to a place. Or how well a person can move around on their own. What many people take for granted in their everyday lives involves a lot of planning for people with limited mobility. For example, a spontaneous visit to a café or a quick shopping trip on the way home. Planning is only possible if you know what the place you want to go to looks like. This information is not so easy to obtain.
This is exactly where Wheelmap comes in. Wheelmap is a street map on the Internet. People can mark on the map how accessible, i.e. obstacle-free, a place is. Then other people can see it too.
In the Wheelmap participatory campaign, we want to find such places together. We will meet for this on Friday, 11.11.2022 from 14:30 - 16:30 at Quartiersmanagement Nordend, Bernardstraße 63 in 63067 Offenbach. You can bring your smartphone with internet access. However, this is not compulsory. After an introduction to the Wheelmap app, we will set off on a walk in the Nordend district.
We use our smartphones to mark accessible and non-accessible places. Because it's more fun together.
