Germany is part of Europe and belongs to the European Union. You can also say EU. The European Union is a community of states. 27 countries currently belong to the EU. The EU was founded so that there is peace in Europe and the economies of the EU states are doing well. In the EU, all people should be treated fairly and their rights respected.
The European Parliament has over 700 members from all EU countries. The members are called MEPs and belong to different parties.
You can vote in the European elections if you are 16 years or older. If you have lived in Germany or an EU country for at least three months. And have a passport from an EU country.
You will receive a letter about three weeks before June 9: the election notification. The letter will tell you where you can vote.
You can also vote at home before election day. This is called postal voting. To do this, you have to fill in an application form. The application form is on the back of the election notification. Or you can simply go to the postal voting office in the town hall. There you can fill out the application and vote directly. This is possible between April 29 and June 7.

It's good if lots of people vote. Because the EU passes many laws that are important for people's lives. For example: It is much easier for people to travel within the EU than it used to be. You don't need a visa and you can pay in euros. Every citizen of an EU country can work or study in another EU country. The EU bans substances that are harmful to people.
