Women's Week from March 1 to 15

24.02.2024

All women are cordially invited to the Women's Week.

March 8 is International Women's Day, i.e. Women's Day. Women's Week in Offenbach begins a week earlier and lasts for two weeks.

Women's Day on March 8 is a reminder that women and men are still not treated equally. There are differences. For example, women are often paid less for their work. They experience violence more often. In some countries, they even have fewer rights than men. A lot still needs to be done for women all over the world.

In Germany, women have the same rights as men. But this is not always the case in everyday life or at work. For example: women are paid less than men for the same work. In addition, more women take care of the family. They look after the children and parents and stay at home. That's why they can't work. The Women's Week program aims to highlight these problems. This is also important to Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke.

Around 70,000 women live in Offenbach. Women's Week in Offenbach runs from March 1 to 15. There are many events for women. These events deal with these topics. The problems are shown. But answers are also sought.

How do women live today? What have they experienced? How did they grow up? What have they achieved? What clothes do you buy for babies? Still pink for girls and blue for boys? What toys do you buy for girls and boys? All of this has an influence on children's behavior. And what they are interested in later. The head of the Offenbach Women's Office, Dr. Inga Halwachs, says: "A lot has already changed, for example in which profession women or men work. But that's not enough.

There is a great program: You can dress up in the House of City History. There is a festival for girls at the Sandgasse cultural center. There are courses to empower women. You can see pictures in the town hall from March 5 to 15. You can watch a movie at the Filmklubb on March 7.

On March 8, Ingrid Walther takes a walk in Offenbach and shows art by women. In the evening there will be a discussion in the Haus der Stadtgeschichte.

On March 14, the topic of flight will be discussed at the Filmklubb. Later, women talk about their lives in Offenbach and what they do for Offenbach.
