All-day care for children in primary school
03.08.2024
From 2026, primary school children will have the right to go to school all day. This is according to a new law, the All-Day Support Act. In 2026, children entering Year 1 will be the first to be taught and looked after all day. The new children in Year 1 will be added every year. From August 2029, all children in primary school in grades 1 to 4 will be able to attend school all day.
Before then, a lot still needs to be arranged in Offenbach. There are not yet enough places in Offenbach's primary schools for children who are at school all day.
There must be a warm lunch in all schools.
If the children are at school for a long time, it is important that they feel comfortable. The rooms have to be big enough and nice. To achieve this, new buildings need to be built at some schools or the old buildings need to be modified.
The teachers have to think about how the children can learn and occupy themselves throughout the day.
Paul-Gerhard Weiß is a politician in Offenbach. He says that having children in school all day is good for families. They can plan their work and family life better. The children have more help with learning at school. This is good if the parents are not so good at helping. For example, because they can't speak German well.
9 schools in Offenbach receive 9 million euros. They are to use this money to plan building work for new and better rooms. 5.4 million euros will come from the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal State of Hesse. The city of Offenbach has to pay 3.6 million euros itself. The first to receive money is the new Lindenfeld primary school.
