World Literacy Day 2024

07.09.2024

Around 770 million people in the world cannot read or write. In Germany, this figure is around 6.2 million people. In Offenbach, there are around 11,000 adults who cannot read and write well.

September 8 is World Literacy Day. There are many events on this day. The aim is to draw attention to the fact that many adults cannot read and write well.

The Offenbach Basic Education Centre at the Offenbach Adult Education Centre is also organizing an event. The title of the event is: Learn, read, change the world.

The Offenbacher Grund-Bildungs-Zentrum (OF GBZ) supports people in learning to read and write better. There are also learning opportunities to improve numeracy. Or about digital media, for example to better understand the Internet.

The OF GBZ would like to inform many people about these learning opportunities. To do this, it needs support. That is why many people are invited to the event.

A new learning offer will be presented at the event. The offer is available on the vhs learning platform. The platform is a piece of software that contains many learning opportunities. You can learn to work with digital devices. For example, with a computer or a cell phone. There is also information about the internet and how computers have changed our lives. These changes are also called "digitalization".

There is also a lot of information about the basic education center. For example, what you can do there. You can also ask questions. All services are free of charge. They are paid for by the European Union and the state of Hesse.

The event is on September 9 at 3 pm. Everyone is invited. You can register on the website www.offenbach.de/gbz or directly with Cat* Patiño-Lang, phone: 069 8065 3632.
