Mainstraße closed for seven weeks
04.10.2025
Mainstraße will be closed between Friedhofsstraße and the Bürgel part of the city from September 29. If there are no problems at the construction site, Mainstraße will be open again from November 17.
Cars will not be able to drive there and will have to take a different route. Bus route 101 will also run differently. But cyclists can continue to use the cycle path along the Main. The road is closed because work is being carried out there. New pipes are being laid: Pipes for drinking water, pipes for dirty water and pipes for electricity.
Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke says: "The construction site will annoy residents. Cars and buses may be stuck in traffic jams. But the roadworks are necessary. Two things were important to us. We planned for parts of the construction work to take place during the fall vacations. There is less traffic during the vacations. And we are doing the three works at the same time. So there is only one construction site and not three at different times."
The Offenbach Innovation Campus is being built on Mainstrasse. A campus is a large site. There are many buildings on this site. Pipes have to be laid under the road for the companies on the Innovation Campus. So that the wastewater from the companies can flow into the city's sewer system. Used water is called wastewater. In the future, rainwater will flow into the River Main. The Innovation Campus is very important for Offenbach. After many years, companies and large industrial enterprises are coming back to the city. The companies create jobs and pay taxes to the city. The city of Offenbach has higher revenues as a result.
The pipes for drinking water are very important so that everyone has enough water.
The pipes for the power lines are also important. Because companies and people are consuming more and more electricity.
