New devices for passport photos in the citizens' office
19.05.2025
The citizens' office in Offenbach has new equipment for taking passport photos. The reason is a new law: since May 1, 2025, photos must be digital. This means that you can no longer bring them on paper. With the new devices, Offenbach residents can take digital and biometric photos directly at the citizens' office. Biometric means that the face can be clearly recognized. This should make ID cards more secure.
Many people have their passport photos taken at the Citizens' Office. Last year there were over 14,250, and the Citizens' Office thinks that even more people will want to have their passport photos taken at the Citizens' Office. That is why there are now three machines, previously there were only two. The machines can be used during the normal opening hours of the Citizens' Office.
The city of Offenbach wants to help its citizens quickly and efficiently. It purchased the new devices in December 2024. It wants it to be easy for citizens: they can get the passport at the Citizens' Office and take the photos there and then.
Of course, anyone who wants to can also go to a photographer. The photographer must then send the photos digitally to the citizens' office.
Passport photos can also be taken at DM Drogerie on Marktplatz. Or at Ringfoto in Frankfurter Straße. These stores have special permission. They can store the photos in a safe place and send them digitally to the Citizens' Registration Office.
