Offenbach is a safe city

Offenbach is a very safe city. That's what the police say. Offenbach is the safest city in Hesse. Offenbach is the fourth safest city in Germany.

In 2024, there were 6,046 criminal offenses per 100,000 people in Offenbach. That is almost 18 percent fewer than in the previous year. A criminal offense is, for example: A person has stolen something, injured or killed another person. The person has done something that is illegal. There have been fewer and fewer criminal offenses in Offenbach since 2001. It was only different in a few years. In 2001 there were still 12,539 criminal offenses.

Paul-Gerhard Weiß is a politician from the city of Offenbach. He says: "Some people feel unsafe in the evening and at night. But the figures show: Offenbach is safe and worth living in. The city and the police work well together."

There are only three cities in Germany that are safer than Offenbach. These cities are Erlangen, Fürth and Bergisch Gladbach. Reutlingen, Munich, Hanau and Potsdam are also very safe.

The city with the most criminal offenses is Bremen. There were 15,424 criminal offenses per 100,000 people. Frankfurt comes next with 14,600 criminal offenses.

In Offenbach, there were only eleven very serious criminal offenses against life in 2024. This means: killing or attempting to kill another person with or without intent. Six people died as a result of criminal offenses against life.

Street crime in Offenbach has also fallen. There were 1,444 cases in 2024. In 2001 there were 3,753. There are also fewer thefts: 2,463 cases in 2024 - previously there were 7,400. Robbery and extortion fell to 80 cases.

There are also fewer criminal drug offenses. There were 594 cases in 2024. In 2019, there were still 1,614. Young people are also committing fewer criminal offenses today. In 2024 there were 960 cases. In 2001 there were still 1,946.

But some criminal offenses have increased. There were 862 cases of assault in 2024, compared to 765 in 2023. Domestic violence has also increased: there were 302 cases in 2024, compared to 251 in 2023. Domestic violence means violence between people who live together. For example, in a marriage or in the family. Criminal offenses against sexual self-determination increased slightly to 236 cases. Criminal offenses against sexual self-determination means: someone forces another person to do sexual things even though he or she does not want to. Or someone touches another person sexually against their will. Or insults the person with sexual words. Criminal offenses on the internet have also increased: 808 cases in 2024, compared to 649 in 2023.
