Apply for a passport quickly

Many people want to travel in the summer. If you want to travel to another country, you often need a passport. This is also known simply as a "passport". A passport is only valid for a certain period of time. This is usually 10 years.

The Citizens' Office says that if you want to travel to another country, you should check your passport first. If the passport is no longer valid for long enough, a new passport must be applied for. In many countries, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months. If many people need a new passport, it sometimes takes 10 weeks. You should therefore be quick now so that your passport is ready in time. If this does not work, the Citizens' Office can provide a temporary passport or an express passport. Please note: Not all countries accept temporary passports.

Every person who needs a passport must go to the Citizens' Office themselves. This includes children who are not yet 18 years old. You must bring documents with you:

A valid ID or passport or the expired passport. And a photo according to certain rules. This is called a "biometric photo". You can take the photo directly at the citizens' office at a machine. Sometimes you have to bring a birth certificate with you, for example if you are applying for a passport for the first time.

If the passport is for a child under 18: a parent (mother or father) must be present. This person must bring their own ID or passport. The other parent must be in agreement. They must provide a declaration of consent and a copy of their ID or passport. If only one parent has custody rights, this person must prove this. They must bring proof of custody.
