The digital dog tag is coming from 2026

From January 1, 2026, there will be a new dog tag in Offenbach. The new dog tag is digital.

From this date, the old metal dog tag will no longer be valid. The city wants to become more modern with the digital dog tag. The new dog tag saves time and money for the city. It is easier to manage the dog tax and there is no need to make metal dog tags.

Dog tags show that a dog is registered in Offenbach and that taxes have been paid. Previously there was a metal tag for this. The dog tag was attached to the dog's collar.

From 2026, the QR code will be on the dog tax notice. A QR code is a small, square image consisting of many black dots. You can scan it with your cell phone. Dog tax notice means: a letter showing that you have paid the tax for your dog. People who already have a dog will receive a new dog tax assessment in 2026. The QR code will come with the new notice. If you are out with a dog, you must always have the QR code with you. It is important to be able to show the QR code when being checked.

You can have the QR code with you in different ways: Scan the QR code with your cell phone and save it on your cell phone. Or take a photo of the QR code and save it on your cell phone. You can also print out the QR code and take it with you on paper.

Dog owners now have it easier. Martin Wilhelm is a politician in Offenbach and says: "Many people have asked that dogs no longer have to wear metal tags. With the QR code, dog tags no longer get lost. You don't have to buy a new tag if you lose it. And the tags make noises when they walk, and these noises can disturb dogs."
