Foreigners' Registration Office takes stock: 150,000 processes were processed in 2024
15.01.2026 – Offenbach's Foreigners' Office in the town hall is one of the busiest offices in the city administration alongside the Citizens' Office. One of the reasons for this is the city's steadily growing population.
In 2024, the 26 employees of the Foreigners' Registration Office attended around 20,000 appointments and dealt with the concerns of a total of around 48,000 customers. They issued 14,000 electronic residence permits, tolerated stay permits and residence permits, as well as almost 3,500 fictitious certificates, and processed around 150,000 cases - the majority of them digitally. Notable examples here include the digital contact form that has been developed, which is used to initiate a large proportion of the processes to be processed, including the possibility for customers to upload documents, the further development of the specialist procedures used, so that correspondence with authorities, courts and lawyers is now largely digital, and the various application routes through the implementation of the Online Access Act (OZG). The evaluation for 2025 will still take some time, so the figures given here for 2024 represent the most up-to-date balance available.
The office was also involved in around 500 entry procedures for foreign nationals, just under 1,300 authorizations and just over 500 obligations to attend an integration course and just over 1,300 declarations of commitment were issued. Over 700 registry office inquiries and just over 900 naturalization inquiries were also processed.
"These figures underline the achievements of my team and I would like to thank my colleagues who do their best every day to cope with the immense amount of work. Especially in these challenging times of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the constant increase in work due to the continuing population growth in Offenbach and the city's tight budget situation, this performance cannot be overestimated," says Clemens Mickler, Head of the Foreigners' Office.
City Treasurer Martin Wilhelm is responsible for the Foreigners Office. He knows that the employees are facing particular challenges and are continuing to work with great commitment for their customers: "In these very challenging times, Clemens Mickler and his team have to find ways to deal with the many inquiries and concerns of customers as quickly as possible. This is working very well under the challenging conditions. In addition to the ongoing extra work due to the effects of the war in Ukraine, the team at the Foreigners' Registration Office is also managing to cope with the day-to-day business in the best possible way. In addition, the office is continuously developing all workflows and processes in the course of digitalization in order to meet the high demands and constantly growing number of cases. I am pleased that the figures reflect the successful work of the office."
The changeover in all areas of the Foreigners' Registration Office in June 2020 to appointments only, which means that longer waiting times for certain services are now a thing of the past for customers at the office. However, we ask for your understanding that due to the large number of services to be processed, it may take some time to respond to enquirers, including for appointments.
The Immigration Office has been located in the town hall since the beginning of April 2022. The entrance is directly at the Herrnstraße playground.
