City of Offenbach

Inter-municipal cooperation on digitalization

04.03.2022

The cities of Offenbach, Marburg, Giessen, Limburg, Fulda and Wetzlar have joined forces in an inter-municipal cooperation called "Digitale Kommune@Hessen" to implement digitization projects together. For Offenbach, Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke received 1.237 million euros for the "Open Smart Cities" project.

"Compared to other countries, Germany is lagging far behind when it comes to digitalization. We in Offenbach are tackling this with the support of the state of Hesse and preparing ourselves for the future. We are doing this with the Open Smart Cities project together with other cities, because all cities are facing the same challenges and goals," said Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke. "Together, we want to become true digital cities and are focusing not only on technology, but also on people. We want to find out what people will need in the future to make their lives easier and more convenient thanks to data and new technologies. The smart city of tomorrow will show citizens how they can avoid roadworks, when the garbage can needs emptying or when street trees need water. These are all concrete added values that we want to create for citizens through the intelligent collection and use of data."
