Safety advisor for senior citizens

In 1996, the South East Hesse Police Headquarters initiated the prevention project "Safety advisors for senior citizens". This was also approved by the West Hesse police headquarters and is now offered throughout Hesse.

There are security advisors for senior citizens at every police station in Hesse. They inform older people about the machinations of pickpockets, tricksters at the front door (fake tradesmen, paper and glass trick) and about fraudsters on the telephone (grandchild trick, promises of winnings, fake police officers).

In addition, they advise on topics such as burglary and burglary protection, protection of residential property, dangers on the Internet, dangers with/in e-mails (cybercrime) and on behavior in road traffic.

The security advisors also explain how older people can prevent themselves from becoming victims and provide free information material, brochures and leaflets.

In addition, they give free presentations in retirement homes, senior citizens' assistance centers and church institutions, among others, and also provide information at information stands on the street (in front of supermarkets or banks).
