Why are you involved in your organization and how did you get involved?
Because I enjoy working with people and consider this activity to be very meaningful. I started as a member of the gymnastics department in 1970. After participating three times, I was asked if I would be willing to take on the role of exercise instructor. I obtained my A license in the autumn of 1970.
What goals does your organization pursue and what are its tasks?
To encourage people to exercise and bring people of all nationalities together. You can get involved as an exercise instructor, exercise leader or on the department board. It is also possible to participate in the main board of the association.
What requirements must a person have to be able to carry out this activity?
You have to be able to work with people, have a certain openness and, of course, enjoy volunteering.
Is there a particularly memorable experience from your voluntary work?
It was a particularly wonderful experience to be a co-organizer of the German Gymnastics Festival in Frankfurt in 2009. We hosted the participants as guests at the Lauterborn School, where they spent the night and had breakfast. This was a very moving experience.
Can you take something positive into your private life as a result of your commitment?
This commitment can only be carried out with a partner who stands behind you and also gets involved. This means you experience a lot together.
Does the facility need further volunteer support and who can interested parties contact?
Yes, support is needed in every direction. Be it urgently as an exercise instructor, in board work or in the organization of membership administration.
Thank you, Ursula Scherer, for giving us a brief insight into your commitment!
