Honors from the city of Offenbach

On the basis of § 5 in conjunction with § 51 No. 6 of the Hessian Municipal Code (HGO) of February 25, 1952, a resolution was passed by the City Council on January 27, 1966 to issue a statute on honoring deserving personalities. The citizens' medal in bronze, silver or the badge of honor can be awarded in public recognition of services to the welfare or reputation of the City of Offenbach am Main. The Honorary Commission decides on the award.

The citizens' medal and the badge of honor are presented by the Lord Mayor in a dignified setting in conjunction with a certificate. The first citizens' medals of the City of Offenbach am Main were presented on May 24, 1966 by the then Lord Mayor Georg Dietrich.

The Town Hall Medal was originally intended as a thank you to all those who had rendered outstanding services to the new town hall building, which was inaugurated on July 10, 1971. Later, this medal developed into an award for special services. The Mayor himself decides on the awarding of the Town Hall Medal.

The Prime Minister of Hesse, Albert Osswald, established the honorary letter of the State of Hesse in 1973. The prerequisite for an award is at least 12 years of active voluntary work in local self-government, in municipal institutions, in associations with cultural and social objectives, etc. Since 1998, the decision on the award has been made by the district councillors and mayors in whose area of responsibility the recipients reside.

• If applicable, reference persons, associations or organizations that can comment on the nominee's commitment

The following application form can be used to nominate a person for the State Certificate of Honor:

The Hessian Minister President awards the Hessian Order of Merit for outstanding services to the state of Hesse and its people. This was established in 1989 by the then Prime Minister Dr. Walter Wallmann. Every citizen is entitled to nominate candidates. The award is decided solely by the Hessian Minister President. The application can be made informally.
However, the following information should be included in the application:

• First name and surname
• Home address
• Date and place of birth
• Description of the nature and scope of the voluntary work
• If applicable, reference persons, associations or organizations that can comment on the nominee's commitment

The Minister President of Hesse awards the Hesse Rescue Medal to people who have rescued people at the risk of their own lives or averted a serious danger to the general public. Rescuers whose lives were not in danger during the rescue are publicly commended by the Hessian Minister President.

Every citizen is entitled to make a nomination. The proposal can be submitted informally to the responsible authority or to the Hessian State Chancellery. The Hessian Minister President alone decides on the award.

The Hessian Medal for Civil Courage was established in January 2009. It is awarded to citizens who have stood up for the values of the Hessian constitution or who have provided assistance to another person in an emergency situation and have faced considerable personal disadvantage or danger in doing so.

Any citizen is entitled to make a nomination. The proposal can be submitted informally to the responsible authority or to the Hessian State Chancellery. The Hessian Minister President alone decides on the award.

The Nursing Medal of the State of Hesse can be awarded to people who have cared for and looked after a person in need of care, sick or disabled in their own home free of charge for at least 5 years.

The care should not have been provided more than one year ago at the time of the nomination.

The churches and religious communities, the associations of independent welfare care, the private commercial associations of care for the elderly and disabled, the state senior citizens' association of Hesse, the representative of the Hessian state government for disabled people, self-help groups, the municipalities and districts and any natural person are entitled to make nominations.

The proposal must be addressed to the district administrator or the mayor. They forward the proposal to the Ministry of Social Affairs with a statement for a decision.

The Hessian Minister President congratulates on request with a certificate of congratulations on the following anniversaries:

• 40th work anniversary
• 50th work anniversary
• 60th work anniversary for uninterrupted employment in the same company and
• 50th anniversary for employees and civil servants in the public sector.

The application is made by the employing company, generally via the municipality of residence of the person to be honored.
