Manfred Fuhr receives a letter of honor from the state of Hesse

01.04.2025

Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke presented Manfred Fuhr with the State of Hesse's Certificate of Honour.

Manfred Fuhr received a special surprise at the general meeting of the "Bund der Siedler e.V." (BdS) association. At the suggestion of the City of Offenbach am Main, the Hessian Minister President awarded him the State of Hesse's Letter of Honor. The award was presented by Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke: "You have helped people a great deal with your commitment and made a great 'gift'. The Hessian Minister President, the City of Offenbach am Main and I would like to thank you today for these three decades of voluntary work! You deserve our respect and appreciation." Schwenke emphasized that voluntary work is irreplaceable for a democratic society: "Democracy does not live from knowing better, but from doing better. Voluntary work can be carried out in many different ways."

The letter of honor from the state of Hesse recognizes the services that Manfred Fuhr has rendered to the Association of Settlers as its first chairman for over 30 years. Born in Silesia in September 1942, the family came to Hesse after the war as displaced persons. After training at the Fredenhagen company, Fuhr worked for the police as a career changer. He joined the BdS in 1989 and was elected as its first chairman in 1993. During his time in office, he took the lead in initiating countless projects. Among other things, he negotiated purchasing conditions with various suppliers and created a "tradesmen and service providers overview". He also negotiated the renovation of the streetlights in the Carl-Ulrich estate with the city of Offenbach free of charge for residents. Fuhr also organized the residents' outings.

Schwenke concluded by presenting the honoree with the certificate and silver pin and emphasized: "It is important to me that we do not simply take for granted what people do voluntarily in our city. Those who are committed to the common good deserve that we not only say thank you - but that this commitment is also visibly recognized."
