Offenbach residents who have rendered outstanding services to the city community through their civic commitment can be honoured by Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke at the suggestion of the city community. Anna Röhm, who has been a volunteer at the Oldie Club Offenbach (OCO) for 31 years and has gone above and beyond the call of duty, was awarded the State of Hesse's Letter of Honor by the Hessian Minister President at the suggestion of the City of Offenbach. The Oldie Club's summer concert on Thursday, August 22, provided the perfect setting for this very special award. "Voluntary work, and that's what we're talking about tonight, is absolutely irreplaceable for a democratic society," emphasized Schwenke in his speech. "Democracy does not live from knowing better, but from doing better. Voluntary work is often not in the spotlight, but in the second or third row. It is therefore very important to me that we do not simply take these unpaid, voluntary services for the common good of our city for granted, but that we pay attention to them and thank them publicly when the time comes."
Anna Röhm has been part of the Oldie Club from the very beginning. She was one of the participants at the founding meeting on February 2, 1993 and became a member that very evening. She has been a member of the board as treasurer ever since. In addition to managing the club's assets, her duties also include processing payment transactions and bookkeeping. She also takes on organizational tasks in the run-up to events. In figures, this has involved 1,100 events in 31 years. But Anna Röhm is also involved outside the association. She is involved with donations for Tafel Offenbach e. V., Offenbach's social service organization. She knits and crochets around 200 baby hats and socks a year for Evas Arche e. V. in Berlin.
"Anna Röhm, the good soul of the Oldie Club, has given everyone who has attended the OCO events a great gift with her commitment - and she has done so on a voluntary basis," concluded Schwenke, thanking her for these three decades on behalf of the city and the Minister President.
