Georg Wagner and Sebastian Kurt honored for their volunteer work at TGS Bieber
05.11.2025 – On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Turn- und Sportgemeinde (TGS) Bieber on Friday, October 24, Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke paid tribute to two long-standing volunteers. Georg Wagner was presented with the State of Hesse's Letter of Honor and Sebastian Kurt was presented with the City of Offenbach's Sports Plaque.
Schwenke used the festive occasion to thank both of them for their decades of commitment. Sebastian Kurt was honoured for his many years of work in handball and his services as department head, with which he has helped shape TGS in terms of sport and organization over the decades.
The mayor then honored the former chairman Georg Wagner, who had already received the state's sports honorary letter in 2017. Wagner had been a volunteer youth officer at TGS since 1966, served on the board for over 47 years - including around 20 years as first chairman - and shaped the modernization and opening up of the club. Under his leadership, new sports programs, renovated facilities and a barrier-free clubhouse were created. He also introduced professionalization with full-time positions in the office.
"The voluntary commitment of so many people holds our city together. Georg Wagner and Sebastian Kurt are among these people. They give knowledge, passion and, above all, time to the life of the club, the two honored above all to TGS Bieber. They make a significant contribution to the quality of life in our town, as this is the only way to make offers possible that would otherwise not exist," said Schwenke
Georg Wagner remains active in the area of health sports, Sebastian Kurt supports the handball department in an advisory capacity.
