Stuzubi interview: Training as an educator

08.04.2025 – At just under 8 percent, men are still a minority among educators. However, according to the Federal Statistical Office, the proportion of men in the profession almost doubled between 2012 and 2022 - and the trend is rising. Max Rumpenhorst trained as an educator and thinks that More men are needed in this job.

Men in "women's jobs": Becoming an educator as a man

"My first career aspiration was to be a vet," said Max. His talent for working with children became apparent early on. As a teenager, he repeatedly took on babysitting jobs for his parents' friends: "I really enjoyed that." However, it was some time before he discovered a career opportunity: after graduating from high school, Max first studied political science and later communication studies and worked as a freelance photographer. He wasn't really happy: "Then the question arose, what do I do now?" The turning point came with a job as a freelancer at a youth center where Max carried out creative projects with young people. His colleagues advised him to train as an educator - and Max seized the opportunity.
