On Tuesday, November 14, Mayor Sabine Groß welcomed the new parent mentors of the parent education program "ELMO - Eltern lernen mit in Offenbach". She presented them with their certificates in the town hall after a month-long training course. "It's always great to see how committed people are to helping families in Offenbach and how they help newly arrived parents in particular to find their bearings in their new home, but also to take away practical tips for everyday parenting," said Groß in her welcoming address.
On twelve mornings in October, a total of 18 women received further training on topics such as language development, nutrition and the education system. On behalf of the Caritas Association, the German Red Cross and the International Federation, they will in future accompany newly immigrated parents on regular home visits. They have lots of practical suggestions on how to promote children's development through play and can answer questions about nurseries and schools in Germany or about further support services.
Mayor Sabine GroßThey build cultural and linguistic bridges, strengthen parents in raising their children and thus improve participation and educational opportunities.
ELMO started twelve years ago as a model project of the Netzwerk Elternschule OF and has since been funded by the Youth Welfare Office of the City of Offenbach to the tune of 180,000 euros a year for the association of Caritas, the German Red Cross and the International Federation.
