Girls in Offenbach

On October 10, the working group invited girls to a long table in the Stadthof to talk to them about their situation, fears, wishes and needs. Many girls had formulated these on postcards in advance, but some also joined in spontaneously, so that a bundle of demands almost 60 postcards thick could be presented to the mayor Sabine Groß, who was present.

International Girls' Day is also an occasion to celebrate, which is why there was a party at the KJK Sandgasse on October 11. Girls from all of the city's youth facilities met there to dance, chat, laugh and eat pizza. There was also karaoke and henna tattoos.

Every year on International Girls' Day in Offenbach, there are special offers to support girls in their everyday lives. In workshops, they learn how to defend themselves against crude advances and physical attacks and receive important information on protection against knockout drops. These activities empower girls and help them to feel safer.

Every year, the city of Offenbach plans something special for International Girls' Day to draw attention to the rights and challenges of girls.

In 2023, the #Catcallsofoffenbach campaign was a highlight. Girls made sexist comments and assaults visible on the street by chalking them up directly where they happened. This campaign showed how important it is for girls to share their experiences and stand up against everyday sexism.

Exciting projects that empower girls in Offenbach and give them a platform to be heard are on the agenda again this year.

In Offenbach, the AG Mädchenarbeit - a committee of municipal institutions, organizations and associations - works all year round to make girls in Offenbach more visible, to stand up for girls' rights and to improve conditions for girls in the city. On International Girls' Day, the Girls' Work Group also plans special activities to give girls a voice, especially on this day.

In 2022, the AG Mädchenarbeit has designed a very special city map of Offenbach, namely a hidden object picture on which all professions, activities, sports etc. are shown exclusively by women and girls, because the lives of girls and women in Offenbach are diverse and girls can achieve anything.
