"Violence does not come into the (baker's) bag": Buy bread rolls from Mayor Schwenke on November 25

21.11.2025

"We are already very well positioned in terms of protecting women and girls from violence and a lot has already been achieved. Since 2023, there has also been a coordination office for the Istanbul Convention, which is responsible for implementing the international treaty. That's not the only thing that shows: We take the issue very seriously and it is also close to my heart personally. It is my firm conviction that women must be protected from experiences of violence. That's why I'm happy to get involved," says Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke, who will be standing behind the sales counter at Bäckerei Beck in Bieberer Straße on 25 November from 1 to 2 p.m. and says: "Violence doesn't come into my bag. Only bread rolls, croissants or a sweet slice."

Between 25 November and 10 December, Dr. Inga Halwachs and Luzia Rott from the Istanbul Convention Coordination Office are running the bakery bag campaign to raise awareness of the issue and draw attention to the city's support services. "Buying bread rolls is an everyday routine and therefore the perfect opportunity to spread the message far and wide and provide information about advice centers for those affected," explains Halwachs. "The timing was chosen carefully, as November 25 is International Day against Violence against Women and December 10 is Human Rights Day." A total of four owner-managed bakeries are taking part: Bäckerei/Konditorei Beck with its three branches, Bäckerei Kress with four, Cavus Bäckerei with six branches and Main-Back & Café. At all of them, the baked goods are placed in the "Violence does not come in the bag" bags during the campaign period.
