Poster campaign "Violence has its perpetrators" - Stalking

To mark the week of action on the International Day against Violence against Women - until 10 December - the city's Women's Office and the "Working Group against Domestic and Sexualized Violence" have developed the poster campaign "Violence has its perpetrators". The campaign addresses the issue of the number of unreported cases of gender-specific violence, particularly in relation to the perpetrators of stalking, rape and domestic violence. Every year, around 280 women in Offenbach are affected by stalking, according to a dark field extrapolation based on data from the police crime statistics and the VisSa dark field study.

Those affected are often not believed and their fears are not taken seriously. Stalking is a widespread but often misunderstood phenomenon that can have a considerable impact on those affected. The continuous persecution and harassment not only affects the well-being and everyday life of those affected, but often creates a feeling of powerlessness and being at the mercy of others.

A widespread social misconception is that the perpetrators are usually strangers. From the experience of counseling centers, however, we know that the victims usually know their persecutors personally. The campaign "Violence has its perpetrators" by the Working Group against Domestic and Sexualized Violence clarifies this and other myths in connection with violence against women by focusing on the perpetrators. "Our poster campaign 'Violence has its perpetrators' is intended to be a wake-up call and shed light on the darkness, as gender-based violence often takes place in secret and in private," emphasizes Dr. Inga Halwachs, Municipal Commissioner for Women and Equal Opportunities. "We need to take a closer look, raise awareness, expand prevention measures and provide more support for those affected. I am convinced that together we can achieve a lot and create an environment in which women in Offenbach can live safely and without fear."
