City Treasurer and Head of Integration Martin Wilhelm regularly visits associations and initiatives run by people with a history of migration. He recently visited the Islamic community Mevlana Mosque, which has existed in Offenbach since 1984. Deputy Chairman Mustafa Gürler, Muhsin Senol (Public Relations), Mustafa Topkiran (Youth Work), Abdul Kadir Dogan and Yüksel Fatih Dökücü welcomed Martin Wilhelm as well as Integration Officer Luigi Masala and WIR Coordinator Yasemin Özer to the community's premises.
The municipal representatives gave the visitors from the city administration a tour of the spacious premises. Young people meet here to play pool or in the gaming corner. With lecture series, tournaments and excursions, the municipality offers young people a varied program. At weekends, around 200 children come to the community for religious instruction, which is offered in Turkish and German. The congregation, which is mainly attended by Muslims of Turkish origin, is now also used by other nations, which is why many lectures are now offered in German. There is a mother-child playgroup and women's meetings. Once a week, women are invited to a women's breakfast with a talk. In addition to pastoral care, the education of children and young people is an important component. Elderly and sick people are visited and bereaved people are accompanied.
The association regularly takes part in the Festival of Associations and the Cultural Festival of Nations every year. For many years, the members also organized a fast-breaking event for everyone on the market square, which was very well attended. Cooperation with other religious communities in the city has also developed positively in recent years. Those involved are open to discussions and are looking forward to better networking and cooperation.
Martin Wilhelm, head of the integration department, regularly visits migrant associations in the city and finds out about their activities and concerns. "It is important to me to work together to promote peaceful coexistence among citizens, to strengthen cohesion in Offenbach and to promote dialog between cultures and religions," said Wilhelm during his visit.
