Educational week of the QuB project for newly immigrated young people

14.05.2025

As part of the "Qualification and Employment of Young People" (QuB) project, the school-to-work transition management team invited project participants to the "Microsoft Word - fit for the digital world of work" theme week from May 7 to 11. The QuB project is a support program offered by the city of Offenbach that focuses on language support and professional orientation for newly immigrated young people. Strengthening digital skills is an elementary component of this.

The aim of the theme week was to teach participants the basics of the word processing program Microsoft Word. Using Word is essential in today's digital working world - whether letters, CVs, reports or work logs, most documents today are created on the computer. During the week, the young people learned how to create documents, practiced designing them and learned important details about formatting.

Like 18-year-old Panar, who has lived in Offenbach for three years and had never really worked with Word before: "Now I know the possibilities and can use them. That will certainly benefit me in my future career." Franziska Breitbach, Sadia Hübsch and Jakob Wolf from the QuB project team also confirm that these skills are an important basis for a successful start to training or a career: "Many of our participants have great potential, but have hardly had any contact with applications such as Microsoft Word. We are closing this gap with the theme week," explains Breitbach. The aim is not just to impart knowledge, "but also," adds Wolf, "to give the young people more security and self-confidence in using these programs."

The project will continue to focus on teaching job-related skills in the future, which is why themed weeks on Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint are already being planned. "Our aim is to comprehensively strengthen the skills of young people," emphasizes Hübsch, "and to make them fit for the world of work so that they have a good start to their training and career."
