European politics meets Black Forest adventure: Youth camp in Freudenstadt

The youth camp organized by the Bürgel/Rumpenheim youth club in cooperation with the "Jugendhilfe an Schule" concept was an unforgettable experience for seven young people. During the first week of the Easter holidays, the group explored both European institutions and the scenic diversity of the Black Forest.

A particular highlight was the visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg. There, the young people gained an exciting insight into the work of MEPs and discussed the importance of European politics for their everyday lives.

Nature was not neglected either: on an excursion to the Burgbach waterfall, the young people were able to experience the beauty of the Black Forest up close. They then went on to the Black Forest Bear Park, where they learned more about animal welfare and sustainable husbandry.

The highlight of the trip was a day together at Europa-Park, which not only got the adrenaline pumping, but also further strengthened the group's cohesion.

The leisure time concluded with a visit to the "Residence of Law". This refers to the city of Karlsruhe, where the Federal Court of Justice and the Federal Constitutional Court are based. In Karlsruhe, the group visited the Center for Art and Media, which is located in a former munitions factory. There, old met new: there were paintings from the 16th century on display, but also an area equipped with modern technology. Here, the young people were able to participate interactively in the exhibition.

"Such camps enable children and young people to participate. With this specific trip, the visit to Strasbourg promoted an understanding of European connections and access to cultural offerings and nature experiences. At the same time, social cohesion among the young people was strengthened - and all this was a lot of fun. I would like to thank everyone involved for making the youth camp possible," says Mayor and Head of the Youth Department Sabine Groß.
