New rooms for fresh ideas at the Lauterborn children's, youth and family center

Everything still smells new and fresh at the Lauterborn children's, youth and family center, which is now starting work after several years of planning and two years of construction. This was a good reason for Mayor Sabine Groß to pay a short visit to the young people and the team last week. "I've known Juz Lauterborn since my youth and the condition of the building, which was built in the 1960s, was one of the first challenges of my time in office. Some rooms could no longer be used, only a reduced range of activities was possible and it required a lot of organizational talent. Seeing how much the children and young people like the new building is also a great joy and confirmation for me. My thanks go to everyone involved who made this possible and to the team who persevered for so long."
The result, Groß continues, is something to be proud of. In future, the new building will combine various uses under one roof, namely that of an after-school care center and facilities for children, young people and families. "We are thus breaking new ground in open child and youth work in Lauterborn. The immediate proximity between the nursery, elementary school and the new center offers numerous points of contact to help children, young people and families grow up right in the neighborhood," says Groß, explaining the concept. In addition to the existing child and youth work services, the plans include consultation hours with the educational counseling center, a toddler meeting place for small children and family education programs.
During her visit, the mayor was able to see for herself the fresh spirit that is now blowing through the bright and barrier-free rooms: the young people had written a song especially for the occasion and also presented an excerpt from the circus education program. Visibly proud, they then showed the mayor around "their" part of the building, which houses a music room, a bicycle workshop and a separate room for girls, among other things.
The demolition of the old building is currently being prepared and as soon as the outdoor area has been completed and the daycare center has also moved into the building, there will be an official inauguration ceremony for the entire building complex in 2025.
