International Senefelder Prize
The International Senefelder Foundation was established in Offenbach am Main on November 6, 1971 to mark the 200th birthday of Alois Senefelder, the inventor of lithography. Its purpose is to preserve the memory of the ingenious inventor, promote young artists and technicians, collect documents, objects and lithographs and organize or support exhibitions that serve the technology of lithography and its further development.
The foundation is made up of a board of seven members and a 25-member advisory board. These bodies include representatives from business, politics and culture.
The foundation has been recognized as a non-profit organization since 2 June 1997. The International Senefelder Foundation is planning competitions, exhibitions, project weeks, concerts in the U and E areas as well as guest performances and workshops for the coming years.
It is also planned to honor each award ceremony with a gala. As the foundation sees itself as a committed cultural institution, it is important to be present at all relevant events, such as art and trade fairs, with information about the foundation's work.
The foundation draws particular attention to itself by awarding the International Senefelder Prize. It awards this prize every three years for special achievements in the field of lithography and its further development in flat printing (offset).
The prize is awarded for artistic works in lithography (stone printing), i.e. all works created on stone; lithographic drawings, e.g. from metal offset plates or foil drawings; mixed prints such as prints from stone, offset printing and their combination. The prize was awarded for the first time in 1975.
Previous winners include the artists Bruno Bruni, Jim Dine, Ernst Hanke, Oskar Koller, Christian Kruck, Paul Wunderlich and Bard Verbaenen.
