ruk Rumpenheimer Kultur e.V.

Rumpenheim Kultur e.V. is a registered association that began organizing a wide variety of cultural and intercultural events in 1999. The concept includes openness to many and varied things - to music and theater, literature and art, film and performance, to explorations in our own and other people's everyday lives. And thus for the sophisticated as well as the trivial, for the wild and the gentle, for the cheeky and the truly serious.

This concept has been implemented over 15 years with around 270 events of all kinds. These events, as well as all other organizational tasks, are discussed and planned democratically at the regular monthly public meetings. All RUK activists work on a voluntary basis and are not compensated for their expenses.

The organization and implementation of events - i.e. concerts, exhibitions, theater and cabaret performances and readings - is at the heart of the association's work.

The basic aim of the association is to promote contemporary culture in all its forms, from high culture to popular culture, and to make it accessible to a broad section of the population at a local level in the Rumpenheim district of Offenbach.

RUK's cultural concept is based on four parallel and complementary strands.

RUK first launched the "RUK 22" project in 2005. Five to eight times a year (seven times in 2015), an open stage evening takes place in the Mausoleum on the 22nd of each month with free admission. Artists from all disciplines have the opportunity to present excerpts of their skills to a knowledgeable audience. The aim is to offer young artists and people from the local area who are (re)discovering their artistic abilities a public presentation platform. Young, as yet unknown artists have the opportunity to gain stage experience and enter into a positive, critical dialogue with the audience and the organizer. Openness and the ability to take criticism are a prerequisite. On these evenings, the audience is an active partner of the performers. Discussion and feedback not only serve the further development of the artists, but can and should also broaden the audience's understanding and cultural horizons. Established artists gladly take up the offer to perform excerpts from their new programs in order to receive initial feedback from the audience. One to three artists or groups perform each evening.

With the "RUK 22" project, we can do justice to our special concern of promoting our regional cultural scene, culture you can touch and without any inhibitions.

The "RUK 22" project was supplemented by the "zurechtgeRUKt" series with one or two themed evenings a year (once in 2015). Here, different topics (peace research, ecology, transport, architecture, medicine or mechanical engineering, etc., etc.) are highlighted and discussed with the audience by academics and representatives of public life who are as independent as possible. On two evenings in 2014, topics such as web security and possible regional developments following the formation of the new state government were discussed.

In addition to promoting viable approaches to local cultural creation through the "RUK 22" series, "zurechtgeRUKt" aims to offer local audiences an opportunity for neutral, non-interest-driven knowledge transfer.

The spectrum will be expanded in 2015 with the "RULL" series. Readings from various genres of literature will take place here on two Sundays in 2015.

RUK 22", "zurechtgeRUKt" and "RULL" offer critical people the opportunity to try out their own cultural work and develop it further through critical dialog, discussing social, socio-political, cultural-political, factual and ecological issues and broadening their own horizons
