City of Offenbach

Flying paper men" weather experiment

The Weather Park team has prepared a series of experiments for young and old researchers to carry out at home. The "Flying paper men" weather experiment is the third experiment in this series.

Weather park guide Denny Karran shows the new "Flying paper men" experiment

This is what you need for the experiment:

  • a balloon
  • Fleece fabric, a woolen scarf or your head
  • Template for paper figures (available on the Internet)
  • Tissue paper
  • scissors

The experiment:

  1. Cut out figures from the tissue paper.
  2. Blow up your balloon and tie it in a knot.
  3. Spread out lots of cut-out paper figures on the table
  4. Now rub your balloon against the fleece fabric, the woolen scarf or your hair for a while.
  5. Now hold your balloon over the paper figures

What happens?

The paper men fly and dance.
